Luis and Nicole first met in high school in 2004 at Glastonbury High School. He just moved to Glastonbury and was a senior, she was a junior. Nicole first caught Luis's eye while passing each other in the hallway. She when he looked her way. Luis walked up to her and asked if she had a boyfriend. She said, "No, and what's your name?" He chucked and then introduced himself. Nicole said with a little laugh "oh so you're the new guy everyone is talking about. I'm Nikki." They both laughed and casually said "nice meeting you and guess I'll see you around".

Luis and Nicole remained only friends throughout the year, walking each other to class and hiding the crushes they had on each other. New Years Eve going into 2005 fate brought them together again while passing one another after celebrating with friends. He noticed her walking with friends and stopped her to catch up on times, eventually asking for her number. They began dating shortly after and the rest is history.
